HHC Education and Language Program is dedicated to providing educational, cultural and language learning experiences for all ages. Educational programs explore the traditions, history and languages that perpetuate the Akimel O’otham and Pee Posh cultures of the Gila River, and provide a better understanding of the ancestral connection to the Huhugam.

HHC offers

  • Educator led school tours and classroom art activities.
  • A variety of cultural-themed outreach presentations for the Community, departments, and presentations for off-reservation organized groups.
  • Classes and workshops that provide perspectives on aspects of culture, respect and understanding of our traditional ecological knowledge system (plants and animals).

As a resource to the GRIC, HCC’s Language Program assist cultural teachers, teachers and community members in revitalizing and perpetuating the Community’s languages through language documentation, development of language materials for educators, language and culture focused outreach presentations, and English to Akimel O’otham and Akimel O’otham to English translations.
